As Americans prepare to celebrate Flag Day, two local organizations are coming together in Susanville to honor one of the nation’s most enduring symbols.
Elk’s Lodge Number 1487 and American Legion Post 204 will host a Flag Day observance Sunday at Memorial Park, recognizing the history and significance of the American flag.
Organizers say the ceremony will provide an opportunity for community members to reflect on the flag’s role in American history and the values it represents.
As part of the observance, American Legion Post 204 will collect worn, damaged, and retired American flags for proper disposal. Officials say all flags received will be retired according to established protocols that honor the flag’s service and symbolism.
Following the ceremony, attendees will be offered complimentary hamburgers and hot dogs. The event is open to the public.
